The Things We Do For Art of the Day: Artist Dominic Wilcox attached a metal On/Off switch to his head with wig tape and kept it there, day and night, for a month.
Wilcox says:

I remember after leaving the place where it was done I had to overtake some people on the path. I knew they would see it, so that was a big moment, then after that I relaxed a little. I went into a pub once and ordered a drink. It felt like the music and pool balls came to a stop for a second or so. Then started up again.

Howard Finster (Dec. 2, 1916 - 2001): AND THE MOON BECAME AS BLOOD, 1976 -  enamel on fiberboard (Smithsonian)
“Reverend Howard Finster created many paintings inspired by biblical events to illustrate his teachings and decorate his two-acre environmental sculpture, Paradise Garden. This painting is part of a triptych that shows different scenes from the Bible. AND THE MOON BECAME AS BLOOD is the second painting in the series and was inspired by Saint John’s visions in the book of Revelation. The large black sun immediately draws our attention and emphasizes the violent nature of the painting, while the scrawled text and broad strokes of bloodred paint evoke the end of days.” (Smithsonian label)

I love this picture, I love this woman’s work. I don’t know why. It’s sort of scary- that I know, but I find something alluring and intriguing with the photos. I love how the background mainly makes the picture, not the background. Yes, I know a lot of people would consider her work horrifying and, even, demonic. But, I like the dose of fear and reality I get from her photos. I enjoy the reality and dark image given to them. I really, really believe this is the best photography I’ve seen in a while. www.chantalmichel.ch

Dash Snow and Dan Colen, Hamster’s Nest. One of the late Dash Snow’s most infamous pieces (actions? installations? happy accidents?), a Hamster’s Nest involved “shred[ding] up 30 to 50 phone books, yank[ing] around all the blankets and drapes, turn[ing] on the taps, tak[ing] off their clothes, and do[ing] drugs—mushrooms, coke, ecstasy—until they feel like hamsters.” The downtown Baudelaire and his partner-in-crime Colen recreated one such nest for Deitch Projects in 2007. Also note Snow’s predilection for ejaculating on newsprint.

 Ewwwwww.
